무대 위로 다시 살아난 경기민요 백년사 !
‘100 Years of Gyeonggi folk songs History revived on stage!’

’경우소리시리즈‘는 만남과 이별, 연인과의 사랑, 만물의 이치, 자연 탐방 등 시대를 불문하고 인간사의 가장 보편적인 이야기들이 수백 년 동안 서민들에 입과 귀로 재생산되었던 민요에 담겨 있었고, 이를 통해 현대인들과 소통하고 표현하고자 만들어진 프로젝트다.

두번째 작품 ‘경기京畿 오마주’는 지금은 볼 수 없는 경기소리 1•2세대의 옛 전통 공연 모습을 재현하고 존경의 뜻을 담아 과감하게 오마주(homage)하는 공연이다. 총 14곡의 민요를 쉼 없이 60분간 연속곡으로 진행하며, 그 속에 담긴 다양한 민요 레퍼토리를 통해 경기민요의 특색을 한자리에서 경험할 수 있도록 작품을 구성하였다. 또한, 경기민요의 역사에 따라 알맞은 해설 영상을 구성하고 옛 민요 명창들의 음반을 기준으로 하여 철저한 고증 속에 현대적인 음악 구성을 이뤄내었다. 이는 지금의 관객들에게 당시 문화를 체험할 수 있는 신선한 경험일 뿐만 아니라, 한국 전통 소리 속 ‘흥’이라는 정서가 시대적 당위성으로 살아남을 수 있던 이유를 직감적으로 공감하게 할 기회가 되었다.

이번 작품의 의의는 공연이 단순히 보는 것이 아닌 체험 그 자체가 된다면, ‘한국 전통‘의 수많은 요소로 구현해 낸 우리의 것들이 얼마나 아름다울 수 있었는지 실현해내는데 중점이 있다. 공연 이후 피드백을 통해 소통을 나눈 다수의 관객은 노래에 더한 다양한 시∙청각적 요소를 문화∙예술적으로 경험함으로써 매우 인상 깊었다고 평가하였다.

‘Kyoeogwoo sori(song) Series’ is a project created to communicate and express the most common stories of human history in folk songs that have been reproduced by the common people for hundreds of years, such as meeting and separation, love with lovers, the reason of everything, and nature exploration.

The second work, ‘Gyeonggi 畿 Omaju’, is a performance that reproduces the old traditional performances of the first and second generations of Gyeonggi sound that cannot be seen now and boldly homages with respect. A total of 14 folk songs are carried out as consecutive songs for 60 minutes without a break, and the work is organized so that the characteristics of Gyeonggi folk songs can be experienced in one place through various folk repertoires contained in them. In addition, a commentary video suitable for the history of Gyeonggi folk songs was composed, and a modern music composition was achieved amid thorough historical examination based on the records of old folk songs. This was not only a fresh experience to experience the culture of the time for today’s audience, but it was also an opportunity to intuitively sympathize with why the sentiment of ‘ ‘Heung(興)‘ in traditional Korean sound could survive with the justification of the times.

The significance of this work is to realize how beautiful our things, which were embodied in numerous elements of “Korean tradition,” could be if the performance became not just an experience but an experience itself. Many of the audiences who communicated through feedback after the performance evaluated that they were very impressed by experiencing various visual and auditory elements in addition to the song culturally and artistically.
